Locking the PasswordLab Master Vault
PasswordLab allows administrators to instantly lock the Master Vault, cutting off all active sessions and disabling access to all credentials until it is manually unlocked.
This is especially useful during maintenance, incident response, or any situation where you need to immediately secure your vault.
When is the Master Vault Locked?
The master vault locks automatically when:
- The server is rebooted.
- The PasswordLab service is restarted.
However, administrators can manually lock the vault at any time for added security.
Step-by-Step: Manually Lock the Master Vault
1. Log in as Administrator
- Open your PasswordLab server in a browser.
- Log in with your Administrator account.
2. Access Vault Controls
- Click on the Settings menu.
- Select Manage Vault.
3. Initiate the Lock
- You’ll see a blue "Lock Master Vault" button centered on the screen, along with important caution messages.
- Click the button.
- Confirm the action by clicking “Yes, Lock the Vault.”
4. Immediate Lockdown
- Your session, and all other active sessions, will be immediately terminated.
- Any attempt to log in will redirect users to the Vault Unlock screen.
Important: Once locked, no one can access PasswordLab until an administrator manually unlocks the vault.
