Configure Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) for Your PasswordLab Account

Adding an extra layer of security to your account is quick and easy with PasswordLab’s built-in 2FA options. You can choose between email-based or mobile app-based one-time passwords (OTP) depending on your preference.

In this guide, we’ll walk through setting up 2FA using an authentication app like Google Authenticator or Authy.

Prerequisites

To follow this guide, you’ll need:

  • A PasswordLab user account
  • A two-factor authentication app installed on your mobile device
  • Access to your mobile phone during setup

Step-by-Step: Set Up Mobile App-Based 2FA

1. Log in to Your Account

  • Open the PasswordLab Web App.
  • Enter your email address and password.
  • Complete the existing 2FA step if already enabled.

2. Open the Preference Panel

  • Click the “Preference” menu.
  • Select “Setup MFA”.

3. Choose the Authentication Method

By default, accounts are protected with email-based OTP.

  • To switch to mobile app authentication, click on the “Mobile App” option.

4. Scan the QR Code

  • A QR code will appear.
  • Open your authentication app (e.g., Google Authenticator, Authy).
  • Scan the QR code using your app.
  • The app will automatically generate a 6-digit OTP tied to your PasswordLab account.

5. Enter and Save the Code

  • Type the 6-digit OTP from your app into the form.
  • Click the “Save” button.
  • You’ll receive a success message confirming your new 2FA method.

From now on, you’ll use your mobile app’s 6-digit code instead of an email OTP every time you log in.

Switching Back to Email-Based 2FA

Want to revert?

  • Return to the “Setup MFA” screen.
  • Select the “Email” option.
  • Click “Save”.
  • A success message will confirm the change.

Your two-factor method is now set to email.

  3. Type the 6-digit OTP shown in the app.
  4. Click Login.
